ERIC MORSE'S UNUSED CAMPOUT NIGHTMARE SCRIPT
Early in 2011 internet radio host Michael J Sankovich contacted me for help with a script he was working on for a film project, Campout Nightmare. He asked me if I would co-write the script with him because he had been working on the script for a couple of months and wasn’t liking what he was coming up with. Mike sent me the script and I looked it over. I saw a lot of weaknesses in character development and the killings weren’t very detailed or interesting. The script was only a quarter done, so I took what mike gave me and developed the characters a bit more, added some humor, and amped up the killings and started developing the killer in the story. This continued throughout the writing of the script. Mike would send me scenes and I would develop them and amp them up.
After we were done we had a very exciting script. It had well developed characters, an intriguing plot, and inventive kills. It also broke a number of the so called “rules” of the slasher films of the 80s.
In the summer of 2011 Mike started production on the film, but due to cast members flaking on him and such and some intense weather problems he had to put production on hiatus.
During the wait, Mike released some of the footage he had shot during his aborted shoot (Note he has since pulled them off Youtube due to bad feedback on it...). I was honestly shocked to see that none of the footage bore any resemblance to the scenes in the script we wrote together. One scene even messed up the continuity of a subplot we had developed in the script…so I wasn’t thrilled.
Also, while the production was on hiatus some drama happened between Mike and his co-host on his radio show, so I gather his co-host who was playing a major role in the film backed out of the production.
So, I recently heard from Mike that he is having the script totally re-written and I was not invited to be involved in the rewrite. Still, according to Mike I will get a writer’s credit on the film. Remembering what happened with Vincent Ward and the script for Alien 3, I’m not really happy about this. If the new script turns out to be a piece of crap with underdeveloped characters and less than inventive kills this will reflect badly on me…
So with that in mind, I’m releasing the original script I worked on with Michael J Sankovich. I doubt this will present spoilers for Mike’s film, since he has firmly stated the new script will be different from this one, which is a shame. So here is the script that will never be filmed for Campout Nightmare…
(note all the sections done in red are my revisions)
(Note: Since posting this Michael J Sankovich has been talking smack about this script and about me personally. If this script is such a piece of crap, the proof is in the read. It is up to you horror fan.....)
